MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

"My name is Angel Verduzco and it is with great pride and pleasure to be serving as this year’s Kappa Chapter President of Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Our chapter is committed to living out the values that define us: academic excellence, community service, and the strengthening of our Latino culture. Through mentorship, service initiatives, and collaborative campus engagement, we strive to leave a positive and lasting impact both within our university and beyond. Our fraternity is more than just an organization; it is a family integrated with strong brotherhood, and with that comes a responsibility to support, guide, and uplift one another. On behalf of the Kappa Chapter, I extend my gratitude for your continuous support of our brotherhood. We are honored to share our journey with you and remain excited for the future ahead. About Gamma Zeta Alpha

Philanthropy

As part of our national organization, we proudly support the California Academic Decathlon, an educational competition designed to challenge and inspire high school students from across the state. By supporting this program, we help ensure that young scholars, many from underrepresented backgrounds, receive the support and encouragement they need to pursue higher education and achieve their fullest potential by overcoming systemic barriers.

Recruitment requirements

- Must be a full-time student

- Must have a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.50

- Must submit a copy of unofficial academic transcripts

- Must submit a typed resume

- Must submit an academic schedule including course load and syllabi

- Must submit a work schedule (if applicable)

- Must be able and willing to work effectively and cooperatively in group work

Annual Events

Each year, the Kappa Chapter of Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. proudly hosts a variety of events that reflect our values of academic excellence, community service, and the celebration of Latino culture. Our calendar often begins with recruitment and rush activities in the fall, where prospective members are invited to meet brothers, learn about our mission, and experience the true meaning of brotherhood. Throughout the year, we host our signature weekly study jam sessions and mentorship workshops to help members maintain academic excellence and overcome academic adversities. On the service front, Kappa Chapter organizes volunteer projects such as community clean-ups, partnerships with the California Academic Decathlon (our national philanthropy), and neighborhood outreach in Santa Barbara to give back to the community. Each year, we celebrate Latino Heritage with collaborative events across UCSB organizations, hosting social events and formal banquets to strengthen brotherhood and celebrate milestones and accomplishments.

History

Kappa Chapter was founded on June 11, 2000 at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Since that moment, our chapter has carried forward the national organization’s founding values. Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. itself was established in 1987, when fifteen men at California State University, Chico originated the organization as a Latino-based fraternity for brothers to excel, serve, and lead. The legacy of those who founded the chapter continues in every event we host, every service project we undertake, and in the brotherhood we nurture among students. We pride ourselves in wearing our letters and representing our history with our colors of Black, Silver, and White. Today, the Kappa Chapter remains a vibrant part of our organization, dedicated to empowering our members, serving our university and community, and upholding a culture of unity, pride, and integrity that will endure for years to come.
