Message From Our President

Hi everyone!

My name is Karen Preciado and I am the 2020-2021 chapter president for the Delta Theta Chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated. What makes our organization unique is that we are the first and largest Latin sorority in the nation. I joined LTA because sisters were always so welcoming and success driven. Joining Greek life has helped my leadership skills grow along with strengthening my academic goals.

History

Lambda Theta Alpha was established as an academic sorority on December 1st, 1975 at Kean University in Union, New Jersey by our 17 founding mothers who wanted to create a space of empowerment for underrepresented Latina women on their campus at the time. We were the FIRST Latina Sorority ever established. We are also the LARGEST Latin Sorority in the nation with over 175 chapters nationwide and in Puerto Rico.

Our Delta Theta Chapter was established here at the University of California, Santa Barbara in the Spring of 2006 by our 22 founding sisters, the 22 Divas of Chaos. Since then we have had a total of 18 lines, 4 of them in the fall and 14 of them in the Spring.

Philanthropy

Our national philanthropy is St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We are the first Latin Sorority to partner with St. Jude’s. Every year, sisters participate in the walk/run to end childhood cancer, which brings communities across the nation together during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month to raise funds for the hospital.

Interested members may join us at our community service events which include card and cape making for the children of St. Jude’s!
