Lambda Sigma Upsilon
MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
"My name is Ángel Sánchez Pérez, and I have the privilege of serving as President of the newly established Ameyalli Chapter of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Incorporated – the first chapter of our fraternity in California. As a Latino-based but not exclusive fraternity, we welcome individuals from all backgrounds who are driven by service, leadership, and the pursuit of excellence. Leading the Ameyalli Chapter is more than a role—it’s a responsibility to uphold our principles of leadership, scholarship, brotherhood, and service while setting the standard for future chapters across the state. We do not shy away from challenges; we embrace them with discipline, ambition, and purpose. This mentality pushes us to achieve greatness in our academics, philanthropic work, and community engagement. Our chapter is more than a fraternity—it’s a movement of young adults committed to uplifting each other and developing the next generation of leaders. We take pride in creating spaces where leadership is forged, cultural identity is celebrated, and lifelong bonds are strengthened. It’s an honor to continue this legacy and guide our chapter forward with integrity and vision. Together, we are shaping a future defined by excellence and impact. Sin miedo al éxito! — Ángel Sánchez Pérez President, Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. – Ameyalli Chapter"
About Lambda Sigma Upsilon
History
Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. – Ameyalli Chapter at UC Santa Barbara stands on a legacy born out of struggle, resilience, and a vision for change. Founded on April 5, 1979 at Rutgers University’s Livingston Campus, Lambda Sigma Upsilon began as a Latino Social Fellowship created by twenty pioneering students seeking representation, support, and unity at a time when Latin American students were largely overlooked in higher education. Inspired by the civil rights era, Indigenous and Afro-Latino traditions, and the model of Black Greek-letter organizations, our founders built a brotherhood rooted in leadership, cultural pride, and community service. In 1987, Lambda Sigma Upsilon transitioned to a nationally recognized fraternity, becoming one of the earliest Latino fraternities in Greek life history and the first Latino fraternity to introduce stepping and strolling as expressions of unity and cultural pride. Today, Lambda Sigma Upsilon continues to honor its motto “Latinos Siempre Unidos” (Latinos Always United) while evolving into a powerful network of leaders, professionals, and change-makers. Our Ameyalli Chapter reflects this mission on the UC Santa Barbara campus, blending our four pillars—Leadership, Scholarship, Brotherhood, and Service—with local outreach and cultural programming that empower students and uplift our community. We are proud to embody the same resilience, unity, and drive for success that our founders envisioned decades ago, carrying their legacy forward and shaping the future.
