Sigma Lambda Gamma

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

"My name is Elizabeth Torres, the 2025-2026 EnvieD Epsilon Delta Chapter President of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. I am currently a 4th year, majoring in Communication with a minor in Applied Psychology. Surprisingly enough, I had never imagined myself in the position I am in today, however I am forever grateful to see how far I have come as I now step into my presidency. I originally chose to join SLG to push myself outside of my comfort zone, experience something new on my own, and hopefully find my “home away from home”. Upon attending my first event, a Breast Cancer Awareness Informational, my worries quickly slipped away as I was instantly welcomed with open arms. Surrounded by so many supportive women and learning that Breast Cancer Awareness was one of our philanthropies inspired me to learn more about our organization. After many events, conversations, and memories, I soon realized this organization had so much more to offer. My values and aspirations aligned deeply with Sigma Lambda Gamma’s mission and pillars: empowering women, serving the community, excelling academically, and embracing not only my culture but the cultures of others as well. Through SLG, I have grown into a stronger leader, student, and woman. I’ve gained confidence in my ability to take initiative, learned the importance of collaboration, and discovered the power of uplifting those around me. Most importantly, I’ve found a sisterhood of women who inspire me daily. As the years go on, our chapter continues to be a place where members of all backgrounds feel both supported and empowered to lead, grow, and make a lasting impact within our community."

About Sigma Lambda Gamma

History

Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. was founded in 1990 at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, with the vision of creating an organization where womxn of all cultures, backgrounds, and walks of life could come together in sisterhood. Since its founding, the sorority has grown into the largest, historically Latina-based multicultural sorority in the nation, representing over 113 ethnicities and cultures. With more than 100 chapters nationwide, Sigma Lambda Gamma continues to empower womxn through its values of academic excellence, community service, cultural awareness, social interaction, and morals and ethics. Our own chapter, Epsilon Delta, was proudly established at UC Santa Barbara in 2010. Since then, we have grown into a strong sisterhood of 160 womxn of distinction who continue to embody the mission and pillars of our organization. Rooted in inclusivity and empowerment, our chapter strives to not only uplift one another but also create a lasting impact within the UCSB and greater Santa Barbara communities. Sigma Lambda Gamma holds a unique place within multicultural Greek life. While we are not part of the Divine Nine— the historically Black fraternities and sororities— we proudly branch from their legacy and hold the Divine Right to step and stroll, an honor that reflects our shared commitment to cultural expression and unity. Our sorority is represented by our vibrant colors, Shocking Pink and Majestic Purple, and our beloved mascot, the Purple Panther, symbols of the strength, passion, and pride we carry as sisters. More than three decades after our founding, and 15 years after establishing our chapter here at UCSB, Sigma Lambda Gamma continues to provide a space where diversity is embraced, leadership is strengthened, and sisterhood flourishes.
