Chapter Information

National founding year: 1990

UCSB chapter founding year: 2010

Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. was founded on April 9, 1990 at the University of Iowa by a group of collegiate women who recognized the need for an organization that empowered women of all cultural backgrounds. The organization has grown to more than 130 college campuses nationwide, fostering educational excellence, personal growth, and support among women of diverse identities and backgrounds. Today, Sigma Lambda Gamma continues to promote sisterhood, empower its members, and create positive change within local and global communities.

The purpose of Sigma Lambda Gamma at the University of California, Santa Barbara is to empower and unite women from all walks of life. To establish a network that will enhance our knowledge and expand our boundaries. To demonstrate that we are capable of the strengths we possess mentally and physically. To create an atmosphere where women of all backgrounds can express themselves. By upholding Academics, Community Service, Cultural Awareness, Social Interaction, and Morals & Ethics we hope to create a place of tolerance and respect for all.

Inspired by her sister’s involvement at UC Irvine, Lisbeth Vasquez sparked the formation of an interest group of 12 students known as the “Ladies of Distinction,” which eventually developed into an official chapter at UCSB. Since its founding, the chapter has welcomed over 160+ members and established over 21 lines, creating a lasting legacy of sisterhood, empowerment, and community at UCSB.
