Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc., established in 1987, was founded in response to the difficulties facing Latino students in higher education. Fifteen men came together with the goal of developing leadership, promoting academic scholarship, and creating an environment of support that integrated and celebrated Latino heritage. The founders established the organization around three core principles: Academic Excellence, Community Service, and the Maintenance of Latino Culture through Brotherhood.

The Kappa Chapter of Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was established at the University of California, Santa Barbara on June 11, 2000 with the goal of creating Latino visibility within the Greek community and providing a support system for Latino students at UCSB. Over the past 26 years, the chapter has continued to grow and strengthen its presence within the UCSB community, currently consisting of 19 active members. Through philanthropic efforts supporting organizations such as Ronald McDonald House Charities and the California Academic Decathlon, as well as community-building events such as Gammas' Angels and Greek Olympics, the chapter continues to create meaningful connections both within UCSB and the wider community.
