SON was nationally founded in 1996. SON was established at UCSB in 2002
Sigma Omega Nu Latina Interest Sorority, Inc. was founded on November 6, 1996, at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Sigma Omega Nu strives to promote academics, cultura, and sisterhood while fostering an inclusive and empowering environment for all its members.
The Gamma Chapter of Sigma Omega Nu was established at the University of California, Santa Barbara, on March 22, 2002. The chapter continues to promote the organization’s values of academics, self-improvement, sisterhood, and Latina/o awareness. At UCSB, the Gamma Chapter has contributed to the community through service and philanthropy while also providing its members with a strong support system, lifelong sisterhood, and a home away from home.
